This Weekend's Guide
Labor Day 2026 falls on Monday, September 7, giving Cornelius and the Lake Norman area a long four-day weekend from Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7. The lineup below is pulled from venue calendars and Cornelius Today's "Live at the Lake" series and the Visit Lake Norman events calendar. Many shows are free, and times and acts are subject to change, so check each venue's page before heading out.
Labor Day weekend is the unofficial last hurrah of summer on Lake Norman, and the venues know it. From a tribute-heavy lineup along the Cornelius waterfront to free town concerts and family lake events, there is no shortage of live music and happenings between Friday, September 4 and Monday, September 7. Here is where to be across the long weekend.
Friday, September 4
BoatYard LKN, 8 PM: Simplified
BoatYard Lake Norman at 18418 Statesville Road kicks off the long weekend with Simplified on its lakeside stage. It is a 21-and-up show around 8 PM, so arrive early for waterfront table seating. This is the area's primary dedicated live-music venue, open Wednesday through Sunday.
Rock the Park, 6:30-8:30 PM: Big 80s Tribute Band
Mooresville's Rock the Park Summer Concert Series closes its season with the Big 80s Tribute Band at Liberty Park. Free and outdoors, with the town's social district active nearby. A short drive from Cornelius on a mild kickoff evening.
Saturday, September 5
BoatYard LKN, 8 PM: Blue Monday
The 80s and 90s tribute band Blue Monday brings a high-energy nostalgia night to the BoatYard lakefront stage. Expect a packed crowd for one of the biggest nights of the area's live-music calendar.
Cain Center for the Arts, 7:30 PM: La Profesora, a Tribute to Bob Seger
The Cain Center for the Arts on Catawba Avenue presents La Profesora: A Tribute to Bob Seger, a seated ticketed show in the intimate 401-seat theater. A great option for those who want classic rock in a proper venue rather than a bar setting.
Festival of Food Trucks, 5-8:30 PM
Also at Liberty Park in Mooresville, the Festival of Food Trucks brings 15-plus food trucks, live local music, and the active social district. A family-friendly way to spend a Saturday evening just up the lake.
Rural Hill Amazing Maize Maze, Opens
The Amazing Maize Maze opens for the season at Historic Rural Hill (4431 Neck Road, Huntersville) on weekend schedules through October 31. A 7-acre corn maze, hay wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, and food trucks make it one of the region's signature fall kickoffs.
Sunday, September 6
BoatYard LKN, Weekend Headliner
BoatYard carries its holiday schedule through Sunday night. Check bydlkn.com for the confirmed Sunday act, then settle onto the lakeside patio for the end of a long weekend.
Battle of Charlotte, Historic Latta Plantation
Over Labor Day weekend, Historic Latta Plantation in Huntersville hosts the Battle of Charlotte, a Revolutionary War reenactment with period encampments, musket demonstrations, and living history. A history-rich outing just south of Cornelius.
U.S. National Whitewater Center, Music & Competitions
Just down the Catawba River, the U.S. National Whitewater Center runs outdoor music, races, and competitions through the holiday weekend, with trails and river access all day.
Monday, September 7: Labor Day
The holiday itself is a day for the lake. Ramsey Creek Park in Mooresville keeps its beach open for one final weekend, September 4 through 7, with swimming, boat rentals, paddleboarding, and picnic areas, plus a free shuttle from the Northcross Park-and-Ride lot. For waterfront families, it is the classic send-off to summer. Old Town Cornelius stays lively too: the Lake Norman Social District is active daily until 10 PM, so a long lunch and a walk between venues makes for an easy holiday after collapsing on the sand.

North Meck Community Farmers Market, Wednesdays, September 2 through 23, 9 AM to noon, behind Cornelius Town Hall, with produce, goods, and a live community feel.
Looking Ahead: A Strong September
If you are visiting or leasing through the month, September keeps delivering. At the Cain Center for the Arts, Tuba Skinny plays traditional jazz on Friday, September 11 and Good Times Bad Times, a Led Zeppelin tribute, follows on Saturday, September 12. At BoatYard LKN, expect Departure, a Journey tribute, on September 11 and Rhymin' N Stealin', a Beastie Boys tribute, on September 26. The Cornelius Festival of Cultures returns to Cain Park on September 12, and the Lake Norman Empowerment Festival, a free gospel evening at Smithville Park, follows on September 20.
