The last full weekend of September is the biggest of the month in Old Town Cornelius: the 'Tawba Walk Arts & Music Festival returns to Oak Street Mill on Saturday, September 26 with two live-music stages and more than 100 artists and makers. Around the water, the BoatYard LKN pairs a yacht-rock spectacular on Friday with a Beastie Boys tribute on Saturday. As the lake settles into deep fall, this weekend belongs to Old Town Cornelius. Saturday's 'Tawba Walk is the area's signature autumn art and music crawl, and it lands between two strong nights of waterfront concerts at the BoatYard. Harp and Crown LKN at 19930 W Catawba Avenue hosts its weekly What the Funk open jam on Monday evening. A rotating house band backs up local players who step on stage, and the elevated gastropub's kitchen runs through the night. It is the friendliest way to hear live music on a Monday around the lake.
Wednesday, September 23
Cain Center for the Arts, 12 PM: Clifford the Big Red Dog
The Cain Center for the Arts on Catawba Avenue hosts a family-friendly matinee of Clifford the Big Red Dog at noon on Wednesday. The 401-seat theater is an easy daytime stop for parents and grandparents in town, and a good warm-up for the weekend's festival energy.
Thursday, September 24
BoatYard LKN, 6 PM: Acoustic 'Til Kickoff
The BoatYard Lake Norman at 18418 Statesville Road runs its free, all-ages Thursday acoustic series as a lead-in to the weekend. Grab a lakeside deck seat and ease into the nights ahead. Back in Old Town, Bin 110 on One Norman Drive keeps its Thursday-to-Saturday music schedule with no cover.
Friday, September 25
BoatYard LKN, 8 PM: Thurston Howell, a Premier Yacht Rock Spectacular
Friday night at the BoatYard brings Thurston Howell, a Premier Yacht Rock Spectacular, a 21-and-up show around 8 PM with tickets about $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Smooth-classic rock and sailing-smooth harmonies on a lakeside stage feels like the show was made for the setting. Arrive early for waterfront seating, and note that BoatYard shows exclude table reservations.
Old Town Cornelius, evening: The Friday Rotation
Beyond the BoatYard, Friday evening is a reliable night across Old Town: live sets at Bin 110, acoustic evenings at Harp and Crown, and music later in the night at Rudder & Rose on West Catawba Avenue. The Lake Norman Social District lets you stroll between them with a drink in hand until 10 PM.

'Tawba Walk Arts & Music Festival, 2 to 8 PM: Free
The headline event of the weekend is the 'Tawba Walk Arts & Music Festival, Saturday from 2 to 8 PM along Oak Street Mill (19725 Oak Street), Cornelius Town Hall, and Catawba Avenue in Old Town. This free, family-friendly celebration brings two live-music stages, 100-plus artists and makers, craft breweries, food trucks, and kids' activities. BoatYard LKN, 8 PM: Rhymin' N Stealin', a Beastie Boys Tribute
After the festival winds down in Old Town, the BoatYard closes Saturday night with Rhymin' N Stealin', the original Beastie Boys tribute, at 8 PM (21+, tickets about $20 in advance and $25 at the door). A high-energy change of pace on the water, and a natural cap to a long festival day.
Rudder & Rose, late evening: Live Music on West Catawba
Rudder & Rose at 19708 W Catawba Avenue, the rebranded successor to the Tropicana, keeps a regular rotation of live music and tribute nights on the Cornelius waterfront. After the festival and the tribute show, it is a comfortable late-night stop within the Social District.
Sunday, September 27
All American Dog Show, Robbins Park
Pet vendors, concessions, and dog contests fill Robbins Park (17738 W Catawba Avenue) on Sunday afternoon in a family-friendly, tail-wagging close to the weekend.
Sundays around the lake are for slowing down. Lost Worlds Brewing on One Norman Boulevard often features acoustic sets on the patio, Bin 110 and Harp and Crown round out the weekend rotation, and Rudder & Rose keeps the evening live. The Lake Norman Social District remains active daily until 10 PM, so a slow Sunday afternoon strolling Old Town with live music in the background is an easy way to close the week.

At the Cain Center for the Arts, American Elton (an Elton John tribute) lands Saturday, October 3 at 7:30 PM, the Jazz Legacy Project honors Louis Armstrong on Friday, October 9, and To the Limit, an Eagles tribute, plays Saturday, October 10.
